End of "Getting Started" Year

Things have come to a halt for the Festive Season, and Dragons Abreast Bribie Island have had an exciteing few months of "getting started".
We have had some wonderful support from our mentors and some of the organisations on Bribie Island and surrounding districts and we are well on the way to taking delivery of our Dragonboat which will be named "Spirit of Bribie".
Some of our new members have taken advantage of the genourosity of sister clubs in the area and have had a few paddles with them to "get the hang" of paddling.
We have had the misfortune to lose our first President, Cathie Gouldsbrough, who has had to leave Bribie Island to go with her husband, Nigel and their 2 daughters to live in Dubai for a few years.
We have had Christmas greetings and Best Wishes from Cathie and family, and we have promised to send her one of our shirts with our logo when we get them ready.
We have had a couple of "Ups and Downs" on our journey to form DABI, but with Jo's help we are getting there.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and a HEALTHY NEW YEAR from,
DRAGONS ABREAST BRIBIE ISLAND.

Dragons Abreast Bribie Island Market Stall

Sunday July 13 Bribie "Pink" girls started their fundraising at the monthly Rotary Markets at Brennan Park Bribie Island.
This was a huge success and as well as pink cakes, used books, lavendar sachets, drinks, art work and M&M's we distributed information about "life after breast cancer" and have had interest from 3 potential new members.
We intend to have this market table again and we are so thrilled that this venture turned out so well with such great support from our new membership.
We're looking forward to our big information meeting on 22 July at Bribie RSL when Michelle Hanton, Jo Parry and Lexie Warren will speak to us about our new forming group.

morning tea for new Dragons on Bribie

Next Wednesday June 18 at 10A.M. we are holding a morning tea at 22 Pacific Drive Banksia Beach to entertain our good supporters and raise funds for our new Dragonboat group.
We are madly selling M&M's and we have arranged a meeting on July 22 at 6P.M. at our local R.S.L. to give more information to breast cancer survivors in the area about our Dragonboat project.
We feel we are moving forward towards our goal fairly well but will be pleased when Jo. Parry is back in Australia to give us some tips regarding the new setup.
Will keep everyone posted of devellopments.

Dragons Abreast Comes to Bribie Island

A new Dragonboat team to consist of Breast Cancer Survivors and their close supporters is now being formed at Bribie Island where we will paddle in the beautiful waters of Pumicestone Passage.
Three women from the district, Dawn Worley [I am a paddler with Dragons Abreast Redcliffe at the moment] Cathie Gouldsbrough and Anne Cousins are working together with our advisor Jo Parry from National Dragons Abreast to get the "Show on the road".
We already have strong interest in the venture with at least 15 B.C. survivors who have expressed their desire to paddle plus close supporters and we are calling a public meeting for July 22 at 6P.M. at the Bribie R.S.L. to explain to other survivors the benefits and joys of our sport.
We also have the support of our local councillor and our local member who are both working to find a home for our dragonboat when we get it.
